This make pack boats manoeuvrable and stable on the water, and barely noticeable on long portages or shorter trips to the car. These canoes work well with double-bladed paddles, eliminating the hassle of J-strokes (and also why they are often called boats rather than canoes that being the defining characteristic of a “canoe”).. Pack Boats offer the short learning curve of kayaks,  with the great access of a canoe to make something that carries way more gear than a kayak and is not nearly as restrictive for paddling as a single blade canoe.
