Description A beautifully preserved and extremely rare specimen of Platypleuroceras brekispina, discovered in the Black Ven Marls of the Lower Lias at the iconic fossil site of Black Ven, Lyme Regis, Dorset, United Kingdom. This specimen was found by our experienced team members Alister and Alison on 05 March 2024 and has been professionally cleaned, prepped, and treated by Alison. Platypleuroceras brekispina is a distinctive species of Early Jurassic ammonite, recognised for its broad shell and unusually strong ribbing, sometimes bearing short spines or tubercles. Its occurrence in the fossil record is relatively uncommon, making high-quality examples highly desirable to both collectors and researchers.
