Description This hand-crafted statue depicts Padmasambhava, the renowned tantric master in Tibetan and revered as the “Second Buddha” in Buddhism in Tradition describes him appearing as an eight-year-old child seated on a lotus in northern India, symbolizing his enlightened and unique origin. Padmasambhava brought Buddhism to Tibet, and Tibetan Buddhists, especially in the Nyingma tradition, honor him as the second Buddha. In the 8th century, King Trisong Detsen invited Padmasambhava to Tibet to overcome spiritual challenges that hindered the construction of Tibet’s first monastery. According to stories, local forces destroyed the work at night, but Padmasambhava used his spiritual skills to calm these energies and transform them into protectors of the Dharma. As a result, builders completed the Samye Monastery. Artisans crafted the statue from copper with an oxidized finish and placed it on a lotus base, symbolizing purity and spiritual awakening. The oxdized process gives the lotus a special texture and unique chocolate-black look, demonstrating the skill of traditional Himalayan metalwork. The statue portrays Guru Rinpoche in his usual seated pose, expressing calm, authority, and wisdom. Artisans may include symbols like the vajra, skull cup, and khatvanga, which represent transformation, power, and enlightened awareness.
